Google’s 2010 shopping spree has cost $1.1B so far

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – Google Inc. has spent $1.1 billion during the first half of the year buying up 22 companies, with more than half of the amount going toward its recently finished acquisition of mobile ad service AdMob. The financial breakdown was part of a second-quarter report the Internet search leader filed Friday. Google’s shopping spree has been focused on startups so small that it hasn’t been required to specify the price it paid in each deal.

Motorola spent $880,000 lobbying in second quarter

WASHINGTON – Motorola Inc., the maker of cell phones and other telecommunications equipment, spent $880,000 in the first quarter to lobby the federal government on laws such as those that sought to discourage electronics manufacturers from using minerals from rebel-held mines in the Congo, according to a disclosure report. Motorola also lobbied the federal government on legislation involving public-safety communications networks and patent reform, according to the report filed on July 20.

YouTube Videos Now Give Users 15 Minutes of Fame

In what appears to be a competitive move against emerging video sites, YouTube on Thursday announced an unexpected improvement to its video platform. The Google-owned company is increasing the upload limit from 10 minutes to 15 minutes.
